Residents of Tihra Lines village near here who were rendered homeless after a landslide struck the village, were on Sunday shifted to government houses till they are rehabilitated.
Urban development minister Shudhir Sharma, who visited the landslide site, handed over the keys to the houses to 26 affected families. “The displaced families have been given the keys to government houses and will be shifted to the new accommodation by Monday,” Sharma said addressing a press conference after visiting the spot.
The affected families were allotted government houses at power colony in Darnu village and reserve pool houses of the district administration.
At present, the affected families were staying in the quarters provided to them by the army while their belongings were lying in open sheds on the Central School premises. Sharma, who is also the local MLA, said each affected family would be given Rs 3-lakh grant. “The administration has identified land in Khaniara village near the town to rehabilitate the affected families. A case for the allotment will be sent to the government soon,” Sharma said.
He said the displace families had expressed desire to settle at one place and adequate land for the purpose was available at Khaniara only.
Landslide had struck Tihra Lines after the hill on which the village was situated caved in on August 7 morning. The landslide swept away army quarters and damaged houses of villagers.
