Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M Karunanidhi's arrival in Delhi on Tuesday night is expected to give the final seal of approval to the Congress' choice for the presidential race.
With Mayawati throwing her weight behind the Congress nominee, the DMK's support should make ditherers like the Left, agitated over the choice of Shivraj Patil, to fall in line as the there would be no doubt over the numbers. DMK sources disclosed that given Karunanidhi's stature, he may even be called in to iron out the Congress-Left differences.
"Last time, our leader suggested Arjun Singh for the job. But he wants to remain in active politics. So we have come to the conclusion that we will back the nominee of the Congress," a DMK minister said.
