Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Friday wanted the issue of sharing of the Ravi-Beas Waters between the concerned states be referred to a fresh tribunal.

At a meeting with Minister for Water Resources, Arjun Charan Sethi here, he discussed the issue with him and move to refer it to a fresh tribunal under the provision of Inter State Water Disputes Act 1956.

The Chief Minister wanted the Water Resources Ministry to seek the advice of the Law Ministry on the need for a fresh tribunal.

He said the last time the issue was taken up and shares allocated was on December 31, 1981. Since then substantial variation has occurred over a long period of time and there was need for a review of the basic allocation.

The Chief Minister said that the terms of reference for Eradi Tribunal appointed earlier to go into Inter-State allocation of Waters was never agreed to by any of the states.

He had also also addressed Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani on this issue.
