The Delhi High Court has asked CBI to file within four weeks a status report on housing societies scam.

Noting that the manner of probe cast a shadow on the conduct of investigating officer, the Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked CBI to file within four weeks a status report explaining how it gave a clean chit to two housing societies in the multi-crore housing scandal.

A Division Bench of Justice Vijender Jain and Justice S N Aggarwal also asked CBI to furnish within six weeks a report on the status of investigation against 102 housing societies which were "illegally" revived after 2000.

The Bench passed the direction after the court appointed amicus-curiae K C Mittal raised doubts over the manner in which the CBI gave clean chit several housing societies. He charged the probe agency with clearing these societies despite "sufficient incriminating material" against them in the illegal revival.
