The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India has inked an agreement with Indira Gandhi National Open University, by which the latter would offer specialised graduate and post graduate courses in commerce stream for ICWAI students and members. Courses would be offered in Hindi and English, he said. The 10+2 students can take admission in Foundation Course of ICWAI and specialised B.Com courses of IGNOU simultaneously Kunal Banerjee of ICWAI, who was also present, said. Similarly, Intermediate examination passed students of ICWAI and graduates can pursue final course of ICWAI and M Com simultaneously and common papers studied by a student in ICWAI course would be exempted in the respective specialised course designed by IGNOU exclusively for ICWAI students, he said. ICWAI also signed an MoU with Chartered Institute of Management Accountancy (CIMA), UK, for a fast track qualification for the cost accountants, needing them to pass only four papers in the UK curriculum, Banerjee said. A one year course on Certificate in Accounting Technicians has also been launched to address the heavy demand of trained accountants at Junior level in India, which would be around one million in the next three years, Banerjee said.
