JKDF President Bushan Bazaz in a letter asked the agitators to call off the stir and resolve the issue through negotiations, a JKDF release said in Jammu.

He also appealed to the public to maintain peace and said "there are people with nefarious designs who do not want peace in the state. They are out to spread communal hatred and create a wedge between different communities."

About the handling of the tense situation in the wake of land transfer, he alleged that the administration "mishandled" the situation and remained "insensitive" to the concerns of the people.

The government should open up all channels of dialogue to resolve the issue, Bazaz said and appealed to Governor N N Vohra to convene an all-party meeting to redress grievances of the people.
