Get set for a musical extravaganza. Students of Delhi Public School, RK Puram, in collaboration with HT Next, are presenting a dance-drama Ramayana in the Modern Context.
“Ramayana is one of the most profound spiritual texts of India and its principles can be applied to every aspect of our lives,” said principal Dr Shyama Chona. “We believe that modernisation should be intrinsically linked to our roots.
Through this performance we intend to tell the audience it is not just important to read the holy text but also live by its cherished ideals.” The performance is primarily in Sanskrit with Hindi fused in. Sanskrit is just one of the highlights of the play. The others are the compositions and choreography.
“We have used dance to express a particular episode or happening,” said Dr Asha Lata Pandey who has scripted the stage adaptation. The play has been directed by theatre personality Meenal with the assistance of Shivam and Shefali.
Another performance by the school children is Mirza Ghalib, to be staged on April 11, 12 and 13 at Siri Fort Auditorium. Ramayana will be performed on April 17, 18, 19 and 20 at Talkatora Stadium at 7 pm.
