The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has termed the judicial probe announced by the state government to investigate the violence in Kishtwar on August 9 as eyewash to hide the truth. Similar probes were announced by the present coalition government in the past also but nothing concrete could come out of them, it added.
Three people had died in communal clashes in Kishtwar.
In meeting of senior party activists of Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha constituency, chaired by PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, party leaders said since the formation of this coalition government in January 2009, a number of inquiries have been announced into different incidents, but they all have proved tactics to shield the real culprits.
The PDP said the state government should take strict action against the real culprits responsible for violence to restore confidence among people. It expressed concern over loss of precious human lives and property in Kishtwar and demanded that all the affected families should be rehabilitated completely.
Party leaders said "failure" of the state government to protect lives of innocent people has badly shattered faith of the common masses and alleged that the state government was deliberately allowing the situation to deteriorate as it suits the National Conference.
Its leaders regretted that the process of peace and reconciliation started during the regime of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has been reversed by the present dispensation through its "misdeeds and failures".
The PDP said the Omar Abdullah government had failed to provide relief to people of Doda and Kishtwar, which were affected by earthquake four months back and demanded a comprehensive package. The party also expressed concern over the loss to property because of the recent rain.
