Lalji Tandon declines to comment on EC order

Senior BJP leader Lalji Tandon has declined to comment on the EC order for registration of a bribery case against him.

Senior BJP leader Lalji Tandon on Friday declined to comment on the election commission order for registration of a bribery case against him holding the distribution of sarees on his birthday celebration as prima facie violation of model code of conduct.

"I am yet to receive an official communication from the Election Commission and so I am not in a position to offer any comment", Tandon told reporters in Lucknow.

State chief secretary VK Diwan said the state Government was bound by the Election commission's directives for removal of the district magistrate and the senior superintendent of police of Lucknow and registration of a case against Tandon.

He said a panel of names, as asked for by the commission, for appointing district magistrate and SSP would shortly be sent to the EC for its approval.

Tandon, meanwhile, was closeted with senior party leaders at his residence in Lucknow and is understood to be discussing the EC directives.
