MCI team suggests separate chamber for doctors

THE TWO-DAY visit of the Medical Council of India (MCI) team to the Gandhi Medical College in the City concluded on Saturday with the members visiting the Sultania Lady Hospital — the gynaecology department of the GMC — among other medical establishments.
The three-member team also visited the GMC centers at Obaidullahganj and Fatehgarh and the GMC hostel on the hospital premises. The report of the routine annual visit would be sent to the dean of the college along with the recommendations.
The MCI members visited the Sultania Hospital, situated near Talaiyya Police Station, and inspected the infrastructure and cleanliness at the hospital. The team members interacted with the patients and held discussions with the superintendent Dr Neeraj Bedi. Interestingly, the members enquired from the superintendent whether he was working full-time or part-time at the hospital.
The team members also suggested that the doctors should have a separate chamber and they should not be sitting in the wards.
The visit to the hospital and the outskirt centres were mere formality completed within a short duration. The main part of the visit was completed on Friday itself with the team members pointing out some shortcomings. The team included Dr A S Desai from Ahmedabad, Dr Shinoy from Haryana and Dr Thiru Narayan of Chennai.
