CONTINUSING HIS offensive against the Centre, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday alleged senior officials of Union Ministry of Home Affairs had issued orders for tapping phones of Samajwadi Party leaders.
He rejected the Union Home Minister’s contention that the letters to this effect, purportedly of the Delhi Principal Secretary (Home) and the Joint Commissioner of Police, were ‘forged’.
Addressing a public meeting at Narmal School ground where he laid foundation stones of a number of development projects worth Rs 174 crore for the city , Yadav said he was ready to produce the letters in court if need be to prove they were ‘genuine’ and alleged that Central agencies like Intelligence Bureau and Research and Analysis Wing had carried out the tapping at the behest of the UPA government at the Centre.
He accused the Congress of making baseless and unwarranted allegations against the State Government.
Lashing out at the Congress, he said Congress leaders had a soft corner for Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi and blamed the CBI for its failure in pursuing a case against him. He said the Congress party was wasting its energy in conspiring against George Fernandes, SP leader Amar Singh and others.
He called upon party activists to give a befitting reply to forces which were blaming the State Government for ignoring eastern UP.
Impressed by a huge gathering, Mulayam Singh Yadav said political scenario in the country was changing fast. He said as Opposition parties had joined hands in an effort to dislodge the SP Government, it was time for SP workers to sink their differences and go to the people to highlight achievements of the government.
He said in the recently concluded assembly by-elections and Zila Panchayat chairperson’s elections, all Opposition parties had joined hands to defeat the SP candidates.
Pleased with the victory of SP candidates in the ZP chairperson’s election, Yadav said the unity shown by the SP activists during the election should be maintained to demoralise the opposition parties.
Highlighting the achievement of his government, Mulayam Singh said no previous State Government had given cheques worth Rs 20,000 ech to promote girls’ education. He said the government was determined to provide free education and health services to the people of the State.
In all, Yadav laid the foundation stones of 87 development projects in the district, including four power substations, a dozen roads and half-a- dozen bridges at various places in the district. He also inaugurated the much-awaited Veer Bahadur Singh Planetarium under Ramgarh Tal project and distributed cheques for Rs 20,000 to 300 girls under the Kanya Vidya Dhan Yojna.
