Parliamentarian from Amritsar Navjot Singh Sidhu, who has been “missing” from his constituency for almost a year, will be back within a fortnight, his wife has claimed.
Over the weekend, a local NGO had put up posters across the city declaring him “lost” and announced a “reward” of Rs 2 lakh for information on him. Stung, his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu, chief parliamentary secretary and legislator from Amristar East, has promised that Sidhu will soon be back in his constituency.
“I have advised him to visit the constituency at least once a week, and tell people where things are stuck regarding his projects,” she said on Wednesday.
Asked when the “once-a-week” visits would begin, Navjot said it would happen by the next fortnight. “At least the people should know why he was away. He should tell them what projects he took up with the Central and state governments, even if these were never started,” she said.
Regarding the “missing MP” poster campaign led by a former Congress councillor, she said, “They should put up the posters of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other Union ministers. My husband went to them with many ambitious projects, like heritage city status and visa at border, but nothing came of it.”
