It was followed by another tremor of 3.9 magnitude at 8.48am, they said, adding that a minor aftershock was also witnessed around 6.42am.

However, there was no immediate report of any casualty or injury, officials said, adding that a house collapsed in the area but no one was there when the tremor took place. The quake and aftershocks triggered fear among the people, leading them to rush out of houses and stay in the open for some time.

A series of tremors have jolted Bhaderwah, Doda and Kishtwar areas of the state in the past few months.

In May this year, Bhaderwah and its adjoining areas witnessed 37 tremors. In July, there were as many as five quakes in Bhaderwah, Doda and Kishtwar areas.
