The rise of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi has reduced the rest of the BJP leadership to pygmies, said Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh.
“He (Modi) has projected himself to a level where other BJP leaders, including Advani ji, Rajnath ji, Murli Manohar ji and Sushma ji are all looking like pygmies,” Singh said. “Sorry to use such a harsh word but then his activities prove what I am saying,” he said.
Singh said the VHP’s plans to undertake ‘Chaurasai Kosi Parikrama” in Uttar Pradesh exposed the BJP’s and Modi’s plans to communalise the elections.
“This parikrama is usually undertaken during the Ramnawami period. By doing it now, the VHP is raking up the Ayodhya issue before the election,” he said, adding that it was all going according to Modi’s plan.
“The moment Amit Shah was put in-charge of UP, it was clear what Modi was trying to do – communalise the election.”
The Congress general secretary dismissed suggestion that his party was trying to create a Modi-phobia to win 2014 election.
“Narendra Modi is not an issue for us. He is an issue which BJP has to tackle,” Singh said. Singh also compared Modi to Hitler. ““I feel that there are a lot of similarities between the two as Modi is trying to follow Hitler in his bid to capture power.”
Singh said with Modi coming into the limelight, the BJP has become “tiny” in Gujarat.
In Gujarat, he said, there was no BJP only Modi reigned supreme. Singh said one should not be surprised at all on what Modi can do to get power and added that his “dream” of making India Congress-free would never be realised.
