Addressing a rally on Collectorate campus here on Tuesday, Karat said the society could never grow with the policy of liberalisation. She said the party’s campaign was aimed at fighting for the cause of the labour class and added that the CPM was not only raising voice in favour of the poor but was also coming out with alternative and better policies and trying to implement them.

“Developing atom bomb and making capitalists richer is not great. Rather we must solve the problem of unemployment, arrest rising prices and properly implement the land reforms and give due place to women in the society,” Karat said. She added that those governing the nation were only keeping the Mumbai sensex in mind while ignoring the plight of the poor.

On the issue of murder of trade union leader Amrendra Pandey, she said it was shameful that the police administration had openly sided with the mill proprietors and filed the final report. She demanded that the case should be re-investigated and the culprits must be brought to book. She lamented that the pace of Guaranteed Rural Employment Scheme was slow in UP and attitude of the State government was not satisfactory.
