Pakistan attempted another attack on troops, on the lines of Aug 6 attack, along LoC in Mendhar sector of Poonch, which was foiled by army and para-military force last night.
Pak also fired at 16 forward posts in Hamirpur-Balakote and Mendhar- the two are adjoining areas- along LoC.
A senior BSF official said troops posted at Kranti posts in Mendhar sector noticed a movement of Border Action Team (BAT) of about seven people which had come about 200-mt inside Indian territory. They were heavily armed.
They fired at posts which was retaliated and soon firing started at other posts along LoC on forward posts.
Border Action team is a specialized commando unit of Pak army which terrorists and regular Pak soldiers . Five jawans were killed by BAT action in Poonch along LoC on Aug 6.
The firing started at 12 pm last night and continued till 3 am early Wednesday morning.
“It was another attempt to inflict casualty on our side. The troops have been on state of high alert after the incident and re expect more such attacks,” said senior BSF official.
BAT and infiltrators have different plans. BAT team is assigned the task to inflict casaulity at forward posts while infiltrators are assigned task of carrying out terrorist activities in the hinterlands.
On Aug 6 a BAT team comprising of regular Pak soldiers and terrorists had killed five soldiers. The BAT is active for the last two month in Poonch sector.
Defence Spokesman said Pak troops fired with small and automatic weapons.
Pakistani Rangers had on Tuesday morning fired along Narianpur Border out Post (BoP) in Ramgarh sector. It was the tenth ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the past four days.
Four days ago, Pakistan fired 7000 rounds along LoC in Poonch.
