Astrologers are wasting no time in organising yajnas and puja to combat the ill effects of Guru Chandal Yog.

An avalanche of troubles in your life of late? Perhaps your stars are to blame.

A rare planetary combination of Guru (Jupiter) and Rahu, with Leo, that has occurred after a gap of 36 years is making people flock to astrologers for predictions and remedies.

Known in astrological terms as ‘Guru Chandal Yog’, this period is considered inauspicious, especially so for heads of political parties or communities, and astrologers are wasting no time in organising yajnas and puja to combat the ill effects and pacify the planets.

The rare condition could well be the reason behind a reported 70-day-long puja organised by Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

“Guru Chandal Yog began on 29th of January this year. After every 12 years, Jupiter (Guru) transits into Leo, while Rahu enters Leo after 18 years. Jupiter was residing in Leo, and on January 29, 2016, Rahu also entered Leo. This combination has taken place after 36 years and is called Guru Chandal Yog. This is considered ominous for many,” says Pandit Ajai Bhambi.

According to astrologers, Jupiter is the lord of all gods and planets, and this makes it the ‘Dev Guru’, while Rahu is considered as the devil.

When Dev Guru and Rahu come together into Leo -- which is ruled by the sun --the combination creates problems for an influential individual’s reputation and position.

“Guru Chandal Yog specially affects political leaders or heads of big families and communities. They could become unduly ambitious, sometimes over petty matters, and start taking wrong decisions,” said Delhi-based astrologer Bharat Upmanyu.

Yajnas to combat the effects of this planetary position is specifically prescribed for those born under the Leo, Libra and Taurus rashi (moon signs).

“More than an individual, the Guru Chandal Yog affects the country as a whole, because the shadow of Rahu falls on Jupiter and as a result of this, the political leaders may not be able to think and act wisely. Wrong decisions could be taken by them, which can lead to their downfall. For this, we advise pujas to pacify Rahu and strengthen the sun. A particular ritual called Aditya hridya stotra is performed for it,” said astrologer Ashok Vasudev.

The astrologers warned that bad reputation, unexpected controversy, and grave health issues may plague those affected by the Guru Chandal Yog.

“The biggest problem here is that Leo is ruled by the sun which makes it an authoritarian sign, and it does not go well with Rahu. The combination affects health and also leads to the reputation getting maligned, especially for political leaders who are in position of power,” said astrologer Dr. Prem Kumar Sharma.

“Overall, the combination of Jupiter with Leo is not bad for the growth of the country but it creates situations leading to unexpected controversies or problems for the leaders. Also, in personal life, it’s best to avoid marriage during this phase, the length of which for an individual depends on his/her birth chart,” he added.
