Rahul had sleepless night in Tihar
The son of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan was sent to 14-day judicial remand on charges of drug abuse.
Rahul Mahajan, in judicial custody on charges of drug abuse, complained of sleeplessness after his first night at Tihar Jail but is well, the jail authorities said on Friday.
The son of late Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pramod Mahajan slept on the floor like any other prisoner after being sent to 14 days judicial custody by a city court.
Rahul spent the night at Tihar, Southeast Asia's largest prison, with two more inmates in Ward 4 of Jail 3, said a jail spokesperson.
"Like any other person, Rahul had his dinner and slept on the floor. Though he complained of sleeplessness, doctors declared him fit after examining him this (Friday) morning," the spokesperson said.
"We have learnt that he talked with the other jail inmates for quite some time at night," he added.
A bail application by Rahul Mahajan will come up for hearing at the Patiala House court on Friday. Delhi Police will contest the application as they think that once he is allowed out on bail it will be difficult to get him back for further investigations. He is very influential, said a police official.
Police said that they would demand a narco analysis test on Rahul.
After a drug-laced party on June 1 night, Rahul fell seriously ill and was rushed to the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital early next morning. Vivek Moitra, Pramod Mahajan's secretary, died of suspected drug overdose as a result of the party at Mahajan's 7, Safdarjang Road, residence.
Doctors of Apollo hospital who treated Rahul will be questioned further, said a police official. The doctors were questioned twice earlier on the basis of Rahul's medical records, said a senior police official.
Apart from Rahul and Sahil Zarru, a Kashmiri man who allegedly supplied the drugs for the party, three Nigerian nationals are also accused in the case.
