Rain fury: 23 dead, over 4,000 houses damaged

At least 23 have been killed, 22 injured, more than 4,000 houses damaged, and several roads washed away due to landslides and heavy rains that lashed major parts of the Jammu region during the past four days.
An official from the divisional commissioner's office, till Saturday, 55 concrete house and 1,022 kutcha ones have been damaged completely in the region, while 107 concrete houses and 2,504 kutcha house have been damaged partially.
In the past four days, 139 cattle sheds were damaged fully. In all, nine commercial establishments have been damaged totally and 179 livestock and four vehicles washed away. The official said that as per an assessment, crops on 16,485 kanals were washed away due to incessant rain.
To monitor the flood situation and extending help to the people, control rooms have been set up at divisional- and district-level. The contact numbers of the divisional-level control room is 0191-2479934 and 2478995.
Meanwhile, the ongoing Amaranth Yatra that was suspended for two days, resumed on Saturday from Jammu following improvement in weather conditions. "Amarnath Yatra today resumed as the situation on the highway has improved," a police officer said here.
