Safe motherhood campaign launched

MADHYA PRADESH Samaj Seva Sanstha (MPSSS) today launched a campaign to promote safe motherhood and help bring the issue of maternal mortality to centre stage with support from the UNICEF and Catholic Relief Services (CRS).

To start the process, a State-level consultative meeting was held in Bhopal today. Anil Gulati, UNICEF Communication Officer, while speaking at the meeting emphasised on the role and involvement of civil society partners and help bring the issue to centre stage and contribute to help bring maternal mortality down in the State. He spoke on key areas encompassing the issue, causes of maternal deaths and various policies and schemes of the State.

Kishore Patnaik, State Representative, CRS, spoke on the partnership and how it can help raise concern on the issue like maternal mortality and safe motherhood. Father Mathew Vattekuzhy, Director of MPSSS, welcomed the participants.

Rajiv Mohan of CRS also facilitated the meeting.  Partners of Catholic Relief Services from Bhopal, Hoshangabad, Sehore, Satna, Sidhi, Sagar, Raisen, Ujjain, Shahjapur, Rajgarh, Jhabua, Indore, Dewas, Dhar, Khandwa, Barwani, Khargone participated in the meeting.

They are going to take forward the campaign.  Amit Khare and Ajay Gupta from Samarthan spoke on issue of millennium development goals and its linkage with maternal mortality.
