SP emerges the major winner in the district

THE RULING Samajwadi Party (SP) has won the majority of seats in the Block Pramukh polls in the district. The polling was held on Monday and the results were declared the same day. Out of 20, four SP candidates had already won the polls unopposed in Handia, Chaka, Saidabad and Kaundhiara blocks and polling was held in 16 other blocks.

Out of 20, four SP candidates had already won the polls unopposed in Handia, Chaka, Saidabad and Kaundhiara blocks and polling was held in 16 other blocks.

Barring Bahadurpur, Koraon, Shankargarh, Bahariya and Meja development blocks, SP candidates emerged victorious in all 11 development blocks.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate won from Bahadurpur block whereas independent candidates succeeded in Koraon, Shankargarh, Bahariya and Meja blocks. However, the BSP gave tough fight. Tension gripped Dhanupur block following complaints of fake voting for some time but the district magistrate, senior superintendent of police and the poll managed to control the situation.

Meanwhile, in Pratappur block Congress legislator Shyam Surat Upadhyay, trying to enter the premises of block development office, had to beat a hasty retreat when workers of the SP opposed his intention and shouted slogans.

The polling was held under the supervision of magistrates and video cameras were deployed to ensure transparency in the voting.

Meanwhile, two persons were arrested in Sarai Mamrej area for carrying firearms and about half-a-dozen vehicles were challaned by the administration.

Sitapur: OUT OF 19 blocks, SP bagged 11 seats of block pramukhs. However, heavyweight candidates of SP lost several important seats including controversial Machhretta and Maholi seats. The brother of DESCO chairman Ram Krishna won in Machhretta. In Kasmanda, Uma Shankar Misra, son of ex-MLC Pundit Ram Gopal Misra was elected unopposed.
