Faction-ridden BJP received another jolt in Delhi when party’s election cell convenor in Delhi, Sudhanshu Mittal resigned from his post on August 19.
Considered a close aide of Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel, Mittal was helping him with the party’s campaign strategy in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections. Sources said Mittal was managing Goel’s ‘war room’, planning his rallies and protests.
Mittal resigned barely a month after Goel’s another close aide and the Muslim face in Delhi, Aamir Raza Husain, resigned following his anti-Modi remarks.
Goel said, Mittal has cited “personal reasons” for quitting his post. But sources said he did so under pressure from some senior party leaders.
With the chorus against Goel’s ‘dictatorial’ leadership growing, sources said Mittal’s exclusion from the election cell has been worked as a compromise formula between the dissenting leaders and Goel.
Though veteran Delhi leaders had been demanding Goel’s removal from his post the central leadership is not in favour of making changes when assembly elections are barely three months away, sources said.
The party has worked out a compromise formula to accommodate party veterans in the Capital.
A core committee will be set up to handle the elections including Harsh Vardhan, OP Kohli and Vijender Gupta, VK Malhotra and former legislator Vijay Jolly.
