The police said Raj Kumar's son Gurmeet Singh was digging out grass and piling it on the shared boundary wall in his agricultural field when his cousins, Sheeli and Rajesh, objected to it.

A heated exchange ensued as other family members stepped in. Sheeli and Rajesh called their cousins, who allegedly attacked the three brothers with sharp-edged weapons, which led to their death on the spot. Gurmeet sustained serious injuries. The accused, around seven in number, fled from the spot. Gurmeet was referred to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak.

Jind superintendent of police (SP) Balwan Singh Rana and deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Vijender Singh reached the spot with police personnel. The police said a case of murder had been registered against seven persons and efforts were on to arrest them.
