The Noida Police on Thursday arrested three persons in connection with the murder of 52-year-old Pale Ram Chauhan, a social activist who had lodged several complaints about illegal sand mining in the region.
The police arrested Sonu alias Suraj Chauhan, who is allegedly in the business of illegal sand mining, his father Rajpal Chauhan and his brother Kuldeep Chauhan.
Rajpal is a constable with Delhi police. The police are also looking for Jitender, another brother of Suraj.
Pale Ram, a social activist from Raipur village, was allegedly shot dead by three armed assailants at his home on Wednesday. His family members had alleged that Suraj and his friends were behind the murder. Pale Ram had earlier lodged a complaint against Suraj.
The police said Pale Ram's family members named Suraj in the FIR. The family said they had a quarrel with Rajpal's family in 2004.
Rajpal Chauhan illegally wanted to grab a piece of land but Pale Ram stood behind the real owner of the land, sources said. Because of Pale Ram's stand, the deal fell apart and Rajpal had to face losses. Ever since that day, Rajpal was seeking revenge.
Pale Ram was shot dead by three unidentified miscreants at his residence in Raipur village in sector 126.
Armed assailants came on Pulsar bike. While one of the assailants remained on the bike, two of them entered and pumped five bullets on the victim's head and stomach.
