Tight security for Navratra

THE STAGE is set for the holy week of ?Navratra? beginning Thursday. All preparations are being made by devotees in this city of temples to mark the first day of the week-long religious functions.

THE STAGE is set for the holy week of ‘Navratra’ beginning  Thursday. All preparations are being made by devotees in this city of temples to mark the first day of the week-long religious functions.

Devotees thronged the markets to buy necessary things for worship like chunri and kalash (earthen pots) for worship of Goddess Durga. With sunrise on Thursday morning, the devotees will install the holy kalash.

On the first day of Navratra, devotees will mainly throng the temple of Nirmalika Gauri at Gaighat. Lakhs of devotees are expected to visit this temple from morning till late night to perform worship.

Meanwhile, elaborate security arrangement has been ensured by the administration in and around major temples in the city from Thursday in view of the heavy turnout of devotees expected.

There will be a posse of security personnel in and around the temple of Nirmalika Gauri. Besides, heavy force will also be deployed at other prominent temples in the city. Intelligence personnel have been also activated to keep a close eye on suspected persons near overcrowded temples. Following the recent blasts, special attention is being paid to the security of overcrowded religious spots in the city.

Jawans of police and PAC will be deployed at overcrowded places. A sector magistrate and a DSP along with cops will patrol their respective areas to monitor the security arrangment on the first day of Navratra.
