It was the second accident that occurred on the expressway within two weeks. On August 12, five students were injured when their car rammed into the divider.

According to the police, the Saturday’s collision took place near Jewar toll plaza at Dayanatpur village in Greater Noida. Soon after the accident a patrolling car of Jaypee Group, the developer and operator of the expressway, noticed the car and rushed the victims to Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida, which is around 40 km away from the spot.

Rahul Singhal, 40, succumbed to injuries on his way to the hospital. Other family members were admitted to intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital.

The injured have been identified as Nisha Singhal, 35, Naman,10, and Akshat, 8.

According to close relatives of the victims, Rahul, who was driving his Maruti Zen car, could not see the truck standing on the road and hit it from behind.

The impact of the accident was so powerful that the roof of the car almost came out and its right side was crushed completely.

Rahul, along with his family, was returning to Delhi from Gwalior via Agra last night when the incident happened. He was a resident of Pitampura in Delhi and owned a metal factory in the national Capital. He had gone to Gwalior to attend a function.

"Rahul succumbed to injuries by the time he was brought to the hospital. The injured include two kids and a woman, who are admitted to ICU. The younger son of the deceased, Akshat, is still critical. He has got injuries on his head and hand. We have kept him under observation," said a doctor at Kailash Hospital.

On August 2, a week before the inauguration, a speeding Tata Safari, coming from Delhi, ran over Hari Singh, a youth of Akos village under Baldeo police station of Mathura district.

The angry villagers blocked the expressway and began a sit-in at the spot.
