Election bogus, cries Pandey faction
GIVING A new twist to the ongoing battle of supremacy between two different factions of the Uttar Pradesh Olympic Association, the one led by its outgoing president Sardar Mohd Aslam Khan formed the new body of the UPOA in Noida on Friday. The other faction, led by the outgoing secretary general Anandeshwar Pandey, termed the elections at Noida bogus and against the rules and appeared determined to hold fresh elections here on October 8. Rajya Sabha MP and BJP leader Kalraj Mishra was unanimously elected president at the Noida meeting, which was reportedly attended by representatives of 28 State sports associations and 24 district units. Newly appointed general secretary Munawar Anzar, detailing Friday’s meeting, said on phone that Aslam Khan was named life-long president of the UPOA, while Kanpur Dehat’s NK Pandey was elected treasurer.
He made it clear that UP Handball Association secretary Anandeshwar Pandey and UP Hockey Association secretary JN Tyagi were prominent among those who didn’t attend the meeting. “It was the AGM, called by Aslam Khan and every unit and State body was intimated properly,” said Anzar. He also claimed that Indian Olympic Association general secretary Randhir Singh was present at the meeting when the elections took place on Friday. Meanwhile, the Pandey faction has refused to endorse Friday’s proceedings. “Neither was there a notification of the AGM nor was I informed about it,” said Pandey, adding, “As per my announcement, the elections will take place on October 8 here.”
