RENOWNED URO-SURGEON, Dr Ashok Kumar Hemal of Chhatarpur has been selected for the country’s prestigious civic honour Padmashri.
Dr Hemal is at present posted as Professor in the Urology Department of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.
The Padmashri has been conferred on Dr Hemal in recognition of his outstanding contribution in diagnosis and treatment of various urological diseases, for developing laparoscopic urology surgery and robotic surgery in India and abroad, according to a press release.
Health minister Ajay Vishnoi has congratulated Dr Hemal on the achievement and wished a bright future for the doctor. Vishnoi expressed the hope that Dr Hemal would also contribute his experience and expertise for the benefit of the State too.
Dr Hemal has the honour of becoming the first robotic surgeon of Asia also. He has done pioneering work setting a record by playing a significant role in establishment of robotic surgery department in the AIIMS. He has also successfully performed nearly 100 operations of kidney, prostrate and bladder cancer with the help of two-arm and four-arm robots, the press release said.
Dr Hemal has been earlier felicitated with a number of national and international awards for his noteworthy contribution in the field of laparoscopic urologic surgery and robotic surgery in the country and abroad.
