A 55-year-old woman was crushed to death after being stabbed when she tried to save her 21-year-old daughter from being abducted.
Deceased Naryani Devi used to live with her two daughters Kanchan and Rachna, while her husband remained outside most of the time at Khetri in Rajasthan.
As per incident, Gobind Singh, a relative of Naryanani Devi, who was out on bail in another incident of firing, barged into her house and tried to take Kanchan with her forcefully. Accused who had come with his some other unidentified persons first fired in air and then bundled Kanchan into his vehicle. He locked victim's sister Rachna in a separate room, while Naryanani Devi, when opposed was stabbed then crushed to death under a vehicle. The accused then fled the spot.
The broad daylight incident of kidnapping and crushing of an elderly woman to death invited the wrath of residents of Jhal village, who gathered on the spot and laid a dharna by placing the body on Kanina-Kosli road.
Upon getting information, SP Pankaj Nain, with other administrative officials including SDM reached the spot, but angry villagers attacked them and vandalised their vehicle, forcing the officials to run for cover.
The dharna was continued till Thursday evening and was lifted after assurance from police to arrest the accused and reunite the victim by Friday.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Rewari SP Pankaj Nain said: "A case of murder and abduction has been registered against Gobind Singh and unidentified persons who were with him".
On the action taken so far in this case, he said: "We are investigating the case to nab the accused at the earliest".
