The meet also discussed scattering of garbage in the vicinity of airport. The scattered garbage also attracts birds in the vicinity that could cause trouble to aircrafts during landing and take-off. District collector P Narhari has given instructions to the officials to take care of the matter.

The jackal menace at Indore airport continues with some animals still present on the premises spread over 940 acres. The airport authorities with the help of forest department officials have managed to catch five jackals so far.

In October last year, a jackal had come between the tyres of a Spice Jet plane while it was taxiing to the runway. The flight was delayed while a thorough inspection was carried out.

Taking serious note of the incident, Indore airport authorities had held a meeting with the forest department personnel and made an elaborate plan to trap the jackals. Several cages were installed and food was kept as bait to lure the sly animal.

The city airport will get more passenger amenities once the airport gets 28 acre land from the district administration. The Airports Authority of India plans to build a canteen and expand its parking lot.

After the meeting, the collector said that he had instructed the airport officials to apply for the land. The land has been identified and it is located opposite the terminal building. However, sources in the district administration say that land transfer will take some time.

Sources also said that the airport authorities want the building authorities including the IDA to take permission from the airport authorities before commencing building work in the funnel area (from where the aircraft starts its descend) which starts several kilometers away from the airport. However, the airport officials were told that the demand was not practical and asked them to provide a map of the funnel area.
