Around 2.29 lakh hectares of agricultural area in Hadauti region, spread in districts of Kota, Baran and Bundi are irrigated with the waters in the Chambal dams -- Gandhi Sagar Dam in Madhya Pradesh, Rana Pratap Sagar Dam in Rawatbhata, Jawahar Sagar Dam in Bundi and Kota Barrage in Kota.
Talking to reporters on Tuesday, Hadauti Kisan Union general secretary Dashrath Kumar said: “Due to a good monsoon in the region, all the dams on the river in both MP and Rajasthan are full. So the irrigation woes of the farmers of Hadauti region and also MP stand resolved not only for this year, but also for the next year as well.”
Irrigation water for Rabi crops in Hadauti region depends primarily on the water level in the Gandhi Sagar Dam. The water level in the dam has already crossed 1,309 feet this year (the maximum level of dam is 1,312 feet).
“The canals (running from the dam) can be easily run continuously for five months in the Rabi season from October to February,” Kumar said.
Kota irrigation department, superintendent engineer, RP Pareek confirmed that dams on Chambal river are full owing to overwhelming rains in MP and also Hadauti region.
“The water level in the GS Dam was 1,312 feet last year (too) due to overwhelming monsoon,” he said, adding that mild rainfall lashed the region on the day.
