Akhilesh suspends two officials in Rae Bareli
On a surprise inspection visit to Rae Bareli district, the CM’s orders came in the backdrop of a bitter war of words between his Samajwadi Party and the Congress over the suspension of young IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav suspended two officials and transferred another in Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s Lok Sabha constituency Rae Bareli on Wednesday.
On a surprise inspection visit to Rae Bareli district, the CM’s orders came in the backdrop of a bitter war of words between his Samajwadi Party and the Congress over the suspension of young IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal.
The CM suspended two food department officers — district supply officer Vidya Ram Ahirwar and district supply inspector Sushil Chandra Bajpai — on charges of dereliction of duty. District basic education officer Gyanendra Pratap Singh Bhadauria was transferred on similar grounds.
The CM’s action comes within five days of Gandhi asking Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to ensure Nagpal is not “unfairly treated”.
Nagpal, who took on the sand mining mafia in Greater Noida in her capacity as the sub-divisional magistrate of the region, was suspended by the UP government, ostensibly, for not following the due process of law while getting the wall of a religious place demolished on July 27.
Food and civil supplies minister Rajendra Chaudhary who accompanied the CM on his surprise inspection said, “Rae Bareli has been the bastion of Gandhi family, yet the area remains backward. The chief minister went there to make an assessment of the ground realities and speed up the process of development.”
Although Rae Bareli is Sonia Gandhi’s Lok Sabha constituency, the SP has four of the five assembly seats in the constituency.
