1. Rail fracture between Goregaon and Malad delays peak hour trains by 15 mins

Suburban services on the Western Railway were disrupted for more than an hour owing to a rail fracture between Goregaon and Malad stations at 9 am.

2. Tunneling for Metro-3 to begin by October

The crucial tunneling work for Mumbai’s first underground metro rail corridor, which will connect Colaba and SEEPZ in Andheri (East), is slated to commence by October. Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation, the agency implementing the 33.5-km-long corridor, has ordered tunnel boring machines (TBMs). These will be lowered at several locations along the alignment to start the tunneling process.

3. 32 dance bars fail to comply with norms imposed by Mumbai police

As many as 32 of the 72 dance bars that had applied for fresh licences have failed to comply with the conditions imposed by the police, who may now turn down their requests.

4. Byculla Zoo penguin exhibit likely to be thrown open to public by next week

The public may get to view the seven Humboldt penguins kept in quarantine for more than seven months, by next week. However, as some hurdles still remain, the administration has not settled a date by which the exhibit will be unveiled.

Underworld don Arun Gawli’s daughter Geeta, who won the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections from Byculla, has now decided to back the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the civic body. She will head to Konkan Bhavan on Friday to register her support for the party.
