Central Railway rushes to remove #notinmyname graffiti scrawled in Mumbai train
The graffiti scrawled on a Mumbai local train read: “Rise in rage against Hindu fascist. Lynch mobs #notinmyname.”
Railway authorities on Thursday sprang into action after a picture of graffiti scrawled on a local train was tweeted by a commuter. It read: “Rise in rage against Hindu fascist. Lynch mobs #notinmyname.”
There was another line written below in a different colour: “Let the hate rise, bitches.”
The message was written in a first-class compartment of a Bandra to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) local train. The local train arrived at CSMT and then departed for Panvel from where the Central Railway sent it to Sanpada carshed. The message was removed there, said a CR official.
“The message could have disturbed peace among commuters. As soon as the train reached Panvel, it was sent to the Sanpada carshed and the writing was removed with a chemical,”said the official.
CR officials said they find obscene or offensive graffiti in around five coaches every day. On the other hand, Western Railway officials said they rarely find such graffiti in their trains.
