Sejal Saraf, in her early twenties, and her mother Sonali had adopted two puppies from the street and offered them food. Since they brought the puppies into their house — Mahatma Society in Kothrud — the move was opposed by accused Milind Kale, who lives in the same society. According to Kale, the puppies would have been a source of nuisance for the residents.
As the Sarafs refused to leave the puppies out on the street, Kale allegedly assaulted them on Sunday. Both the mother and the daughter were injured and the incident was captured in a nearby CCTV camera.
“When we saw the two puppies wandering on the street, searching for food, so we brought them home and fed them biscuits. Kale opposed this and started assaulting us,” said Sejal, who also works with several animal lovers in the city. According to Radhika Phadke, inspector from Kothrud police station, the accused is unemployed while his wife is an income tax officer.
The police said that Kale was arrested under various sections of IPC which deals with physical injury and molestation. Later in the day, he was remanded to police custody till Tuesday.
