Marathi actor Praful Bhalerao, 22, died after he fell off a train near Malad railway station on Monday at 4.20 am.

Borivli government railway police (GRP) officers said he boarded the train at Malad station and was travelling to Girgaum. Officials said Bhalerao may have been leaning over the footboard and lost his grip once the train gained speed.

“We got a call at 4.30 am regarding a body found on the tracks. At that hour, trains are generally less crowded so it is possible that Bhalerao was leaning out when he fell. We have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating,” said an officer from Borivli GRP.

The body has been sent for a postmortem.

Bhalerao, who shot to fame as a child actor, became a household name in Maharashtra after his role on the popular TV series Kunku. He has featured in several Marathi serials such as ‘Tu Majha Sangati’, ‘Nakushi’ and ‘Jyotiba Phule’. He worked in the Marathi film ‘Barayan’ which was released recently.
