Wednesday morning saw severe traffic congestion on Sion-Panvel highway, the arterial road that connects Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune, after an LPG tanker toppled near Nerul and blocked two lanes.

The police said that the tanker, which was heading towards Panvel, toppled while it was crossing the bridge at Uran naka.

“The traffic police, police as well as fire brigade officials reached the spot soon after the accident and have cordoned off the area,” said an official from Nerul police station, requesting anonymity. “There has been no fire because of the LPG.”

Officials are now getting the tanker cleared from the road.
