Two Nepali teenagers drowned in a pond near their home in Ghansoli on Tuesday.

According to the police, Hitesh Chetry, 12, and Yuvraj Thapa, 15, had left home in the afternoon to take a dip in the pond but did not return home in the evening. Their parents then went out to look for them.

“Around 7.30pm, a few residents spotted a body floating in the pond and alerted the families,” said an officer from Rabale police station.

“Local fishermen then started searching for the other body and found it late at night,” he added.

The families rushed the bodies to NMMC Hospital in Vashi but they were declared brought dead. The bodies were later handed over to the families after a postmortem.

The police have registered a case of accidental death.
