On the first day after his release from Nagpur jail, alleged naxalite Arun Ferreira preferred to spend time with his family and friends at their St. Martin Road residence in Bandra on Thursday.
Ferreira returned to the city on Wednesday evening, after being granted bail by the district and sessions court in Gadchiroli. Refusing to speak to the media, his family maintained that they would hold an interaction later.
Father Alwyn, who is close to the Ferreiras, said the family has suffered a lot. Both Arun and his family are now doing fine, he added.
Surendra Gadling, Ferreira’s advocate, said that despite the trauma that they underwent in the last few years, they are in a good state of mind. “Ferreira always managed a smile on his face even while he was going through all the hardships. He has suffered a lot in jail,” said Gadling.
Ferreira has filed a petition against the state authorities before the Nagpur bench of the Bombay high court demanding a compensation of Rs25 lakh. “Ferreira is ready for the legal battle which he will face in the days to come,” said the advocate.
Ferreira was arrested in 2007, along with naxalite leader Arun Satya Reddy alias Murli for an alleged attempt to hold a secret meeting at Dikshabhoomi in Nagpur. Though released in September last year, he was rearrested by the police on charge of involvement in the Jafargarh police-naxalite encounter case in Gadchiroli.
