Bollywood playback singer Kumar Sanu believes that live shows help sort out good musicians from the average ones. The 58-year-old feels that no artist can just stay in the studio and become a big musician.

“No one is interested in buying CDs or cassettes these days. Everything you compose goes online, and that is how the public decides if one is a good musician or not. But when there is no sale of CD or cassette, one has to rely on live music and that’s where one sees the real difference,” he says.

“The fans get to see their favourite singer or musician live and the way the audience reacts at the concert can tell who is a better musician. If you are a good live performer, it will automatically show because the audience will be feeling the same energy that the musician has,” he adds.

Sanu might not be singing for Bollywood films but he has been releasing singles independently. “I make sure that I am releasing singles. That way, I also stay in the industry and my fans keep getting something new every month. I have people of all age groups attending my concerts and that keeps me motivated to keep doing better work,” he says.
