A six-year-old girl died and three others suffered injuries when a part of the wall of the fourth floor of a nearby building crumbled and fell onto their hut in Sarfabad village during Thursday morning’s dust storm in Noida.
Usman, a daily wage labourer, his wife Sukesh and two children Saqib (2) and Saina (6) were sleeping in the hut when a piece of wall fell on them from a nearby building’s fourth floor. The building was under construction and it has been claimed by the police that it fell in the dust storm.
Noida experienced dust storm and slight rainfall in the past two days, thereby lowering the temperature of the city and providing relief to residents.
“Usman and his family were sleeping when around 6am, a piece of wall from the nearby under-construction building fell on them. All four members of the family were injured. The police reached the spot immediately and rushed the victims to nearby Kailash Hospital,” said Bijender Bhadana, station house officer, Sector 49.
VB Joshi, spokesperson of Kailash Hospital, said doctors tried their best to save Saina but in vain.
“She was brought dead to the hospital and we tried our best to revive her. The other injured were treated well. However, the exact cause of death can be ascertained only after a postmortem examination,” Joshi said.
The other three members of the family, Usman, Sukesh and Saqib, received minor injuries and they were discharged after treatment.
Thursday morning’s dust storm had a disastrous effect in the Sector 18 market as a number of trees were uprooted and hoardings brought down.
“Due to the storm, many trees were uprooted and they fell on the market road causing inconvenience to commuters. Many hoardings and billboards also crumbled in the storm,” said SK Jain, president, Sector 18 market association.
