Condolence messages startedpouring in on social media as soon as the news broke out of veteran actor Vinod Khanna’s demiseon Thursday.

Top sports stars of the country took to Twitter to pay their respects to the 70-year-old actor, who was suffering from bladder cancer.

India cricket team coach Anil Kumble tweeted he was one of the finest actors in Bollywood. “A great artist #VinodKhanna leaves us. He will be remembered as one of the finest actors in Bollywood.”

Badminton player Jwala Gutta spoke about his debonair looks in her tweet. “The most handsome dashing actor of his time!! RIP #VinodKhanna. U will be missed.”

A huge cricket fan, he witnessed India lifting the 2011 World Cup by beating Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. He used to play in many celebrity matches.

A few weeks ago, the actor’s pictures, in which he looked frail, went viral on social media and his family requested that they be given privacy.

The official statement from the hospital stated: Veteran actor and Member of Parliament Mr. Vinod Khanna, who was admitted to the Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital breathed his last at 11.20 am due to advanced bladder carcinoma.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag described him as charismatic. “Heartfelt condolences on the passing away of one of the most charismatic actors #VinodKhanna ji. Om Shanti!,” read his tweet.

Mohammad Kaif posted an undated picture with the actor on a flight with a caption: “Unbelievable loss. Deepest condolences on the passing away of a wonderful man and such a jubilant being #VinodKhanna ji. RIP.”

Many, including Harbhajan Singh and Shikhar Dhawan, tweeted out their condolence messages.
