Indian cueist Aditya Mehta notched up a 4-2 win over China’s Xiao Guo Ding to join Pankaj Advani in qualifying for the inaugural Indian Open snooker championship to be held in New Delhi in October.
Aditya, who won the World Games gold medal at Cali, Colombia in July, beat Xiao Guo Ding 61-17, 73-36, 107 (104)-9, 01-89 (88), 00-105 (105), 60-25 at Doncaster Dome, near Sheffield in England yesterday.
On Monday, eight-time World Champion Pankaj Advani had blanked Matthew Selt 4-0 to qualify for the Indian Open.
Chess WC: Negi loses; Akash holds Caruana
Tromso: World’s second youngest Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi let slip a position of strength and lost to Ukraine’s Yuri Kryvoruchko in the second game of the chess World Cup’s opening round here.
National champion G Akash made his exit with a game wherein he held world number three Caruana to a creditable draw with black pieces.
Negi followed a mistake with a blunder and the fate of the game was soon sealed.

New Delhi: India returned with a rich haulof six medals from the seventh Asian Junior Wushu Championship that concluded in Manila, Philippines Tuesday. India bagged one silver and five bronze medals. Mahipal Singh (75kg) won the silever after losing in final against Iran.
Snooker: Jagtiani storms into semis
Kolkata: Junior National snooker champion Malkeet Singh suffered a quarterfinal exit going down to Shyam Jagtiani 3-8 in the National 8 Ball Pool (Men) Championship Tuesday. This is the first time Jagtiani has entered the semis of any event.
