Two teenagers, who took their matric exam recently and were waiting for the results, will never be able to know how they fared at the exam.

Raushan Kumar (17) and Sameer Choudhary (16) were run over by an unidentified speeding train while clicking selfies on the Lalpul rail bridge, three kilometres from Katihar town, on Friday morning.

The incident occurred in Korha police station area of Katihar district, confirmed station house officer Anuj Kumar.

A third boy accompanying the unlucky duo, however, escaped unhurt. He has been identified as Bittu Kumar (17). He saved himself by jumping into the river by the side of the railway tracks, said the SHO.

The survivor, who is undergoing treatment at a hospital in the district, said: “When we were taking selfies standing on the railway bridge, the train suddenly came close and we lost our balance. Both my friends came under the wheels of the train and were killed, but I saved myself by jumping off the bridge.”

All the three boys were residents of Laliyahi locality in Katihar town and had appeared at the matriculation examination earlier this year. The deceased had purchased android phones only recently.

The bodies had been sent for autopsy, said the police.
