Indefinite curfew continued in several parts of Nawada, in Bihar, on Tuesday following the four-day communal clashes that have claimed two lives. Business and educational establishments remained closed and the security forces held a flag march across the town.
The tension had erupted in the town, 120 km from Patna, on Saturday following an altercation between two groups at a roadside eatery. Curfew was imposed on Monday and 30 people have been arrested.
“The situation is tense but under control, there has been no report of any fresh violence. The government has invoked the National Security Act for preventive detention and swift action against troublemakers,” said Adesh Titarmare, district magistrate and collector.
Four FIRs have been lodged and the adjoining Nalanda district has been put on high alert. The body of one Md Iqbal, who was killed on Monday, has been buried in Ansarnagar under police security.
