BRICS summit: Xi tells Modi ‘healthy, stable’ China-India ties necessary
The 9th BRICS summit involving nations India, China, Russia, South Africa and Brazil is hosted by China's Xiamen this year on September 3rd and 4th. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday.

As of 2015, the BRICS countries represent a population of over 3.6 billion with a combined GDP of US$16.6 trillion. There were two unstated principles that shaped the ethics of the BRICS formation. First, each nation placed a premium on sovereignty and its importance in the conduct of world affairs and second, each state sought greater pluralism and equity in decision making processes in a multipolar world. Four documents were signed at the BRICS leaders’ meeting in the Chinese city of Xiamen. One - BRICS action agenda on economic and trade cooperation, two- BRICS action plan for innovation cooperation (2017-2020), three- Strategic framework of BRICS customs cooperation and the last document included a Memorandum of understanding between the BRICS Business Council and the New Development Bank on strategic cooperation. PM Narendra Modi will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday at the end of the BRICS summit for the first time since the resolution of the two-month standoff in Doklam along Sikkim border. Modi’s busy schedule includes a meeting with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt on Tuesday morning; Egypt is one of the five countries — Mexico, Guinea, Thailand and Tajikistan, invited to take part in a meeting on the sidelines of BRICS. A Kremlin spokesperson on Sunday said that Russia is ready to take part in talks to try to solve the North Korean issue but has yet to see any positive impact from sanctions against Pyongyang.
