Man dupes 11 mobile retailers in Pune’s Hadapsar of Rs6,95,700, arrested

According to his complaint, Singh bought various mobile phones from Chaudhury in the past five months. Singh paid a part of the phone's cost and promised to pay the remaining amount later. In the past few months, Singh duped Chaudhury to the tune of ₹6,95,700, according to the police.

A 37-year-old man was arrested by Pune police for duping 11 mobile retailers from the city. The man was identified as Rajesh Veer Singh, a resident of Kamthe chawl in Phursungi, according to the police. He was arrested on Monday evening and produced in a local court on Tuesday. He was remanded to police custody till Wednesday.

A complaint against Singh was lodged by one of the 11 shop keepers, identified as Ramesh Chaudhury, 29, a resident of Hadapsar.  

According to his complaint, Singh bought various mobile phones from Chaudhury in the past five months. Singh paid a part of the phone's cost and promised to pay the remaining amount later. In the past few months, Singh duped Chaudhury to the tune of ₹6,95,700, according to the police.  

A case under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against Singh at the Hadapsar police station. Police sub inspector (PSI) UV Pune, of Hadapsar police station, is investigating the case.  

"He bought the mobile phones in bulk. He told us that he sold these mobile phones to saree wholesale retailers and other shopkeepers," said UV Pune.  

The mobile phones bought by Singh were worth anywhere between ₹3,000 to ₹20,000 each.  

The police did not find him in possession of the mobile phones that he had bought from the retailers. Educated till Class 12, Singh has been in Pune for the past seven to eight years. However, the police have not found any previous criminal record against him. While his family lives in Bengaluru, Singh lives alone in a rented room in Fursungi.  

All the other mobile retailers are also from the Hadapsar area. The police are also investigating those who bought the mobile phones from Singh.
