DSP (investigations) Manmohan Singh Aulakh said, “Balwinder had fixed the wedding of his daughter Amandeep Kaur with a boy from Italy despite objections from the girl and her mother Harjinder Kaur. This infuriated Balwinder and he picked up a wooden bat and bludgeoned his wife and daughter to death. After committing the crime, he went to his brother’s house nearby and narrated the entire incident. Subsequently, the police were called and Balwinder was taken into custody. He has confessed to his crime, added Aulakh. A case under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code has registered against him.
Balwinder told police that he was very upset after the marriage proposal was turned down. It was also learnt that the girl did not have any serious objection to the marriage but she followed her mother and decided to call off the marriage.
