Meanwhile, Sikh radicals wanted to meet Sajjan but were not allowed by the SGPC task force. The radicals then protested against SGPC and raised ‘Khalistan zindabad’ and ‘SGPC murdabad’ slogans.
Sajjan had landed in Amritsar on Wednesday evening on his first visit to native Punjab after becoming a minister in Canada. During his stay in the state, Sajjan will visit his native village Bombeli, 15 km from Hoshiarpur. On Friday, he will also inaugurate the Consulate General of Canada, Chandigarh, which was shifted to the fourth floor of the Elante Office Complex.
Earlier, Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh had dubbed Sajjan a “Khalistani sympathiser”, and said he will not meet the Indo-Canadian leader during his expected visit to India.
“Harjit Sajjan is a Khalistani sympathiser,” Amarinder had alleged on the ‘Off the Cuff’ TV show by Shekhar Gupta. The chief minister claimed that there were, in fact, five ministers in the Justin Trudeau government who were Khalistani sympathisers and he would not have any truck with them.
