Yashaswini Singh Deswal of DAV College, Sector 10, has clinched silver in the 10m air pistol event of the ongoing junior world cup at Suhl, Germany, on Monday.
She fired 374 points in the initial round and scored 197.7 in the finals to finish second. Greece’s Anna Korakaki won gold with 200.6 points, while Germany’s Michelle Skeries (176.2) won bronze. In the team event, Indian trio of Yashaswini along with 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games silver medalist Malaika Goel and Gauri Sheron won silver with an overall score of 1122 points.
Malaika, who scored 378 in the initial rounds, finished seventh in the individual category, while Gauri scored 370 to contribute in the India’s team silver. Germany shooters with total score of 1129 points walked away with top honours in the team event, while Russia with 1117 finished third. All three shooters are firstyear under graduate students of DAV College. “It is a great honour for the college that all the three shooters, who made the country proud in the junior world cup in Germany, are our students. All of them have already established their names in the senior section too and hope to see them winning more medals,” said Amanendra Mann, DAV College’s associate professor of physical education.
